About Us

Hello my name is Mark

I first became interested in family history when I started to research my own family surname CHARMAN.

From here things started to escalate, I started documenting and researching as much information as I possibly could. My wife said that it was an addiction, which I would have to agree with, as it started consuming all my time and energy staying up late chasing new leads and writing letters to various people.

The biggest problem I had was that the information I received from various people seemed to conflict with other dates and places. This made my research slow and I often found that the dates and times were inaccurate.

I then started to request Birth, Death and Marriage certificates to try and get some consistent information with better leads. I am not saying that all certificates are accurate but they have so much information that can lead to other information.

The only problem with purchasing certificates is that they can quickly add up to hundreds of dollars and I found myself spending lots of money, as the more certificates I purchase the more leads I found. This enticed me to purchase more and more certificates because I was starting to really get some where with my family research.

This is what led me to think about creating a web site that would help people who were in the same predicament. As an IT teacher and the help of my son who is a web developer, we set about coming up with a web site that could achieve this.

This site was not intended for profit nor is it connected to any other family history organisation. This site is hosted and run by my son and myself on our own web server and is free at this time.

On saying it is free if this site was to expand quickly I would then be required to rely on possible donations from people like you to be able to pay for the upkeep of the site e.g. (storage and hosting costs which is not cheap).

If Certificate Sharing does not get the support or interest it requires and I feel that I have no option but to close the site due to lack of interest it is my intent to pass on all information I have collected to family history groups in my local area and any other research facilities that are interested.

So if you are interested in family history and have the need for information why not become a member of Certificate Sharing and start sharing your history by adding a certificate or two.

On behalf of my son and myself I would like to thankyou for visiting Certificate Sharing.

Kind regards

Mark
